Preventative Advice

Most piles sufferers can be successfully treated using over-the-counter remedies. There are also some simple steps that sufferes can take to help prevent the symptoms returning:

  • Avoid constipation by eating lots of fruit and vegetables and fibre.
  • Drink plenty of fluids.
  • Try to avoid itching or scratching the anal area as this can cause any infection to spread. Treatments with local anaesthetic, such as Germoloids, will help prevent this.
  • Wash the area with warm salty water.
  • Use soft or moist toilet paper.
  • Don’t strain on the toilet.
  • Encourge sufferers to take gentle, regular exercise.
