Piles
have become a common problem in Western countries but in rural areas
of Asia and Africa the complaint is extremely rare. Why? Because
in the West we tend to eat a lot more processed and refined foods
and skimp on the fibre. This type of diet can result in constipation,
one of the main causes of piles.
Take Action
There are steps you can take to make
sure you don't get piles or, if you have already suffered, to avoid
a repeat attack.
- Eat plenty of fibre
- Avoid eating processed or refined foods
- Drink plenty of water and fruit juices
- Avoid too much alcohol, tea and coffee
- Exercise regularly
- Try not to sit down for long periods
- Don't get stressed
- Go to the toilet regularly
- Keep a check on your weight
- Quit smoking - or at least cut down
- Don't wear tight clothes
- Be hygiene conscious
It isn't easy making changes to your lifestyle but if you are determined
and have the support of friends and family, you stand a pretty good
chance of succeeding.
Given the choice between getting piles or avoiding them - which
would you pick?
